eBay is one of the most popular and well visited websites online. The sheer volume of buyers make it a great place to sell, however with this it means that there is also a hell of a lot of competition too. At the heart of this is ‘doing more than your competitors.’ If your auctions contain more information and somehow seem more appealing than your rivals it gives you an immediate advantage. Here’s how to do it:
1. Add lots of photos
It’s probably a bit of a cliché to say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but it really is true (and especially so on eBay!) Make sure that every item you list has photos, and not just a half-hearted one taken with your camera phone. Think about how you photograph your products and take numerous pictures – one of the product, close-ups of the detail, a photo of the box… etc.
2. Spend time on your description
Sellers who take the time to give thoughtful, accurate and detailed descriptions of their items always seem to do better. Make sure your sound passionate about your items and include all the information that you think a potential buyer would want to know. There are always going to be questions about things you haven’t covered but by taking the time when listing to include as much detail as you can you’ll really cut down on this, whilst keeping potential buyers happy. Many people can’t be bothered to ask you a question – if the answer is not in the description they will move on to another auction.
3. Utilise the tools eBay offers you
When you list your item you can choose from many different options and tools. Take advantage of listing designer to create an appearance that reflects your item, and make sure you add photo to your listing (as discussed in the previous point.) There are other things to think about too – making your item ‘featured’ or the title ‘bold’ for example. The paid options you choose very much depend on the value of your item.
