What is a blog? A blog, originally known as weblog is a number of posts that you write about whatever you want to discuss. Blogs are free and can be monetized in several ways. It can be product or software reviews, information about your particular niche, or just what your thoughts and opinions about world in general. If you are sharing valuable information in a particular niche you can actually get sponsors to post ads on your blog. However it is easier to monetize your blog in other ways.
For instance, Google has the Adsense Program, named because the ads actually sense what you are blogging about and match the topics accordingly. You can also advertise other peoples products on your blog, by being an affiliate for them.
You could provide valuable tips and tools and direct people to your blog via social media such as twitter. Once people are at your blog you have the opportunity, through providing quality information and giveaways, to earn their trust. Earning a potential customer’s trust will go a long way toward their becoming interested and willing to listen to whatever opportunity you’re offering. Simply provide media and a link leading to your primary opportunity site.
“WordPress” is a commonly used free blog which can be installed on your own server under your own Domain Name, or by using the “WordPress” server space. WordPress blogs can be customized with templates. WordPress itself provides a number of free templates. Other free and for purchase templates can be purchased on the Internet. Simply do a search for “WordPress templates” and you’ll find many such sites. I find that adding a “widget ready” template allows me to do many of the things I want to with my blog, such as a custom menu, social media links, calendars, etc.
Once your template is in place and your blog is configured the way you want, start posting. The most recent post generally goes at the top of the page, unless you put a “sticky” on one of the posts to make it stay in place. Like many social sites, blogs are, at best, interactive. A “comment friendly” blog will allow your readers to post their thought and opinions. You will get spam comments, so you will want a good spam protector.
There are several ways to make your blog search engine friendly, such as using your keyword phrases in your posts. There are also “ping” services which you can quickly send a small bit of text, making the sites aware that you have updated your blog and they should come crawl it.
As you may be aware, especially when Internet marketing, content is king. The search engines look for unique and quality content. Blogs, can be a valuable tool for providing content and bringing people to your blog, and products or other opportunities you want to advertise.
The bottom line is that if you have something to say, or a product or service to promote, blogging can be a fun, effective, and potentially profitable way to get your message out.
