What are the different kinds of eBay listing?
Ebay started off as purely an auction site, however today it offers sellers a whole host of different formats and options. In this article we are going to look at the different kinds of eBay listing which are on offer and we will think about which ones you might choose.
There are basically three types of listing on eBay, although auction and buy it now can be combined in one listing.
Auction Format
This is what eBay is famous for. You have a start price and then people bid against each other as the price rises. The person who bids the highest wins the auction and often you will see lots of bids in the last few minutes of an auction as people attempt to win the item.
Buy-it-now
A buy-it-now only listing is essentially a fixed price item like a shop. You set the price and if somebody wants your product they click the buy-it-now button and they will be able to checkout. There is also the option to add a buy-it-now price to a regular auction listing. If someone clicks this the auction ends straight away.
Classified ads
Classified ads are a completely different format and work outside of eBay, which merely acts as a way of advertising and connecting sellers with buyers.
Auction and buy it now listings allow you to take advantage of the eBay feedback system where you can rate the other person and let people know your experiences with other eBay members.
